System Conditions

Electricity demand in the province of West Sumatra about 95% supplied by P3B Sumatra through 150 kV transmission network in Southern Sumatra Interconnection System (Sumbagsel) and the rest is supplied by power plants  in an isolated system in the Mentawai Islands.

Of the two systems that supply electricity in the province of West Sumatra, one system (Mentawai System) is in “Alert” condition and one other system (System Sumbagsel) are in the condition of “deficit”. Currently electrification ratio of West Sumatra Province has just reached 69.37% and the ratio of electrified villages by 100%. The PLN waiting list has reached 6017 requests or demand of 7.6 MVA.

Balance of Power

Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra and Lampung electrical systems have been well interconnected with the electric power transmission lines of 150 kV System, known by the name of Sumatra system. Thus, the balance of power throughout the province represented by the balance of power Sumatra system, where in 2010 the capacity of the system can not meet peak loads that exist so that a deficit of 460 MW. As for the following years the condition of Sumatra System is in good condition.

Additional Electricity Infrastructure Plan

The assumption of population growth estimated to average 0.7% per year while economic growth for the same period is projected at 5.1% per year, so with that assumption the electrical energy demand is forecasted to grow on average by 7.2% per year.

In an effort to meet the needs of electricity in the province of West Sumatra, it has been planned for additional electricity infrastructure from the year 2010-2014 as follows:

• Power plants of 507 MW (approximately 11 MW expected to be operational in 2010)

• Transmission of electricity 1506 kms

• 1070 MVA Substation

• new renewable energy program (EBT) and network:

o PLTS 50 WP is spread as much as 32,850 units

o Centralized PLTS 15 kW 4 units

o PLTMH 2040 kW

o The 1320 distribution substation units (66 000 kVA)

o Medium Voltage Network 3780 kms

o Low Voltage Network 3550 kms
