The construction of the coal-fired power plant (PLTU) Celukan Bawang in Buleleng Regency, Bali has finally completed. The project was built by China Huadian Engineering Co. Ltd (CHEC) since 2003 with total cost of US$700 million.
The development of the project was behind schedule due to technical issues, in particular with waste issue, said Chairman of China Huadian Corp Sung Qingsong after the inauguration of the project on Tuesday (Aug. 11).
Some local communities also staged protest against the construction of the power plant, however, the issue was finally settled.
He said the company has shown that it applied high standard in developing this project. The provincial government of Bali has been satisfied with the project, including its impact on environment.
