Indonesia to install more solar panels in cities

Indonesia planned to set solar cell power generators atop of buildings in cities as part of efforts to fulfill the target to provide 35,000 MW of electricity in five years.

Maritje Hutapea, director general of New Energy and Renewable Energy at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said on Friday that the ministry would open a bidding on installations of solar cell power generator systems in buildings in the near future.

She said that her ministry has allocated some 33.9 billion rupiah (about 2.5 million U.S. dollars) to finance the project, which is expected to begin in July.
