Jokowi Throws Weight Behind Batang Power Plant, Says Project Weeks Away

President Joko Widodo has staked his can-do reputation on the progress of a long-delayed $4 billion power plant, telling businessmen in Tokyo he’s aiming for the project to start within weeks.

Construction of the Batang coal-fired station, which is being developed by Japan’s Electric Power Development, Itochu and Indonesia’s Adaro Energy, could start in April, Joko said at a business forum in Tokyo on Tuesday.

“I have been handling this issue directly for four months because I want to show that every problem can be solved,” Joko said.
