E. Kalimantan Mulls Nuclear Power With Pitch for Berau Feasibility Study

The East Kalimantan government said on Wednesday that it planned to begin a feasibility study to assess whether it could be the first Indonesian province to operate a nuclear power plant.

Awang Faroek Ishak, governor of East Kalimantan, told reporters his office had proposed the funding be earmarked in the province’s 2016 regional budget.

“The first step is to conduct a feasibility study. We hope the central government will pass the proposal and include nuclear power plant construction in the state budget,” said Awang, as quoted by Indonesian news portal Kompas.com.
