Governor of Bangka Belitung Rustam Effendi supports the government’s plan to build a nuclear power plant in the province to overcome power shortages, Indonesia’s Antara news agency reported.
“Our demand for electricity is quite high. We are all aware of the power cuts that often occur. So I support the development of the power plant (in the province),” he said here on Thursday.
Electricity is one of the primary factors that can boost the growth of a region. The availability of electric power is the key to a region`s economic growth, he remarked.
“If we have ample electric power, many investors will venture into Bangka Belitung,” the governor affirmed.
Citing results of a study conducted by experts, Effendi stated that the cost of electricity generated by nuclear power plants is far cheaper than that generated by other power plants.
