Indonesia scrambles to ramp up electricity supply

The Indonesian government is struggling to boost electrification in the country as accelerating economy requires more energy, official said here on Friday.

I Made So Rakya, head of corporate strategic planning division at the state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrit Negara (PLN) disclosed that the biggest economy in the region foresaw the demand of power to grow to 386 Twh (terra watt hour) in the next 8 years from this year’s target of 207 Twh.

“So the government needs to build more electricity facilities to produce about 60 Giga Watt” to meet the target, he said at the Mirah Hotel here.
